Faithful Heretic Icons

About

Do you find the idea of a "patron saint" a little too... sanctimonious? You might need a Faithful Heretic instead.

A Faithful Heretic is someone who acts with integrity and courage in the face of mainstream opposition. Take them with you into school, work, church, or anywhere else you need a little dead friend to fight in your corner.

Each one has a brief bio and a few patronages. Don't take them too seriously, or I'll screencap your email and show it to the people who think I'm funny on Instagram.

You can find more details on these historical "characters" on my static website: https://faithful-heretic-icons.neocities.org/

What is an "icon"?

Icons are a classical Christian art form usually depicting Jesus, saints, or angels. They use various colors, symbols, and gestures to communicate complex stories and topics (originally for an audience of common people with limited literacy). Some of the icons might have hidden jokes or fine details that might not be obvious at first glance.

Some people believe that icons have different spiritual or supernatural properties, but the Faithful Heretic Icons are really just stickers, and you don't need to treat them with any special respect or deference.

You also don't need to be a Christian to display them, and displaying them does not necessarily mean that others will identify you as a Christian.

About the artist

I'm an Episcopalian lay minister who was raised Mormon. I've been doodling comics, fantasy characters, and weeaboo shit my whole life, and have recently started experimenting with icons. I have an English degree, which is why I work in food service. [laugh track]
